SIMWORKS Stainless Outer Cable "CRISPER" for Shift - 3m
The new outer cable "CRISPER" jointly developed by SimWorks and Nissen Cable is based on the reliability of conventional stainless steel outer cables and is a model created as an option for users who want more sensitive operation and high-precision shifting and braking performance.
With recent 11-13 speed drivetrains and mechanical disc brakes, the precision of the inner and outer cable is directly linked to the feel of the operation. CRISPER reduces "stroke loss (operation loss due to compression)" by increasing the thickness of the inner coil and narrowing the spacing between the windings. This allows for more accurate transmission of lever movement, making even precise shift adjustments smoother. The lever touch also changes sharply when braking.
Even though electronic shifting and hydraulic brakes are becoming mainstream, SimWorks values "the feel of control at your fingertips and a comfortable ride feeling" for riders who love mechanical systems. CRISPER is not an upgraded version of conventional products, but is positioned as a "refined option" that meets higher demands .
Nissen Cable uses stainless steel coil wire for the outer cable, which is generally made of steel, making it rust-resistant and finished with a transparent coating. A polyethylene inner liner is placed inside the coil, making the lever pull lighter. The outer diameter of the shift cable is 4 mm, and the inner wire is compatible with 1.2 mm.
Considering the need for more diversified cable management to avoid interference with the frame's full outer design and gear such as bags and racks, SimWorks uses a 3m cable length instead of the standard 2m. This means there is almost no need to worry about the cable being too long when assembling.
[Installation method to maximize the performance of the outer cable]
- Before installation, leave the outer cable in a straight state for half a day to a day to remove any initial shrinkage before use.
- For cutting, use an outer cut guide or a high-precision wire cutter.
- After cutting, the coating and coil are deburred and the liner tube is drilled.
- Fluorine-based oil or silicone-based oil is applied to the inner cable.
